Badgers fall to No. 5 Cavaliers
The Badgers trailed No. 5 Lake Travis by just six points after the first quarter.
Then the Cavaliers displayed why they are considered a state powerhouse.
Lake Travis exploded for 28 points in the second quarter and never gave the Badgers a second thought, rolling to an easy 56-39 victory at home.
“In the first two minutes of the second quarter, we failed on the game plan and took a couple of quick, ill-advised shots that led to quick points for the Cavaliers,” Lampasas head coach Scott Harrelson said. “A 15-0 run ensued, and we were down 26 points at the half.”
Although Lampasas lost the game, it accomplished the goal it set for itself during halftime which was to win the second half.
The Badgers outscored Lake Travis 24-15 over the final two periods, including a 15-point third quarter.
“We put together one of the best halves of the year,” Harrelson said.
Playing aggressive defense, Lampasas trimmed the Cavs’ lead to 16 points, but David Eads hit a 3-pointer to inflate Lake Travis’ cushion to 19 points heading into the final period.
Brandon Scott and Astin Murray tied for team-high scoring honors with 10 points each, while Eduardo Davila chipped in eight points in the loss. Scott also led the team with seven rebounds, three assists and two steals.
The Badgers (8- 18, 0-6 District 25-4A) must defeat Marble Falls at home tonight at 7 p.m. in order to keep their postseason hopes alive. Currently, Lampasas is just one game behind the Mustangs and two games back off Hutto for the final postseason berth.
“We need to fill the gym when Marble Falls comes to town,” Harrelson said. “It will be our last home game, Senior Night, and a chance for the Badgers to make a last effort to make the playoffs.”
