Youths have success at recent stock shows
Lampasas Junior FFA member Braeden Raub exhibited the grand champion market steer at the 2010 Hill Country District Junior Livestock Show in Kerrville. Braeden, the son of Darrell and Mary Raub, sold his steer for $4,200 at the livestock auction. Lampasas FFA and 4-H members competed well during the week one breeding swine and heifer show at the Fort Worth Livestock Show and Rodeo.
Joseph Vaillancourt had the reserve champion Hampshire breeding gilt, the champion Duroc breeding gilt and was a finalist for senior swine showmanship.
Kirby Kennedy placed fourth with her Chester white gilt, and Kleg Kennedy finished in the top 10 with his Yorkshire gilt.
Michael Fisher was sixth with his Hampshire breeding gilt and ninth with his black OPB boar.
In the breeding heifer competition held over a three-day period, Braedon Raub placed first in his heifer age division in the Simbrah breed competition. He also exhibited the reserve champion Simbrah heifer of the show.
First-time exhibitor Joseph Vaillancourt exhibited the champion Duroc breeding gilt at the Fort Worth Livestock Show and Rodeo’s breeding swine show. Joseph, the son of Brenda Klinger and Joseph Vaillancourt, also exhibited the reserve champion Hampshire gilt and was a finalist for the senior showmanship award. Blayze Bierschwale placed third with his Angus breeding heifer. He also caught a calf as part of the Jan. 23 Fort Worth Calf Scramble. He received a $500 certificate to be used to purchase a breeding heifer to be exhibited at the 2011 Fort Worth show.
Blayze has successfully participated in and caught calves at two shows: Waco and Fort Worth.
First-time heifer exhibitor Abby Carson placed 10th with her Brahman breed heifer, and Maci Procter’s Hereford heifer took fifth.
Paris Procter’s Shorthorn heifer finished eighth, and Presli Procter placed ninth with her Charolais heifer.
Lucas Atkinson finished sixth with his Charolais heifer, and Bryce and Nolan Ramon were sixth and ninth, respectively, with their Charolais heifers.
