CattleWomen donate books, host readings
      Colorado River CattleWomen will host four readings for children of all ages during February at the Lampasas Public Library. The local organization will donate books for children about beef and cattle to the library, with the readings to be from those books. The readings -- from 10:30-11:15 a.m. -- are in conjunction with the “I Heart Beef” campaign.

Alzheimer's support group meets monthly
      More than 5 million people in the U.S. are living with Alzheimer’s, and caregiver stress is a closely related issue of Alzheimer’s disease. One core service of the Alzheimer’s Association -- Capital of Texas Chapter is to provide support to caregivers through volunteer- facilitated support groups.

      Angelo State University The Dean’s List for the fall 2009 semester at Angelo State University in San Angelo has been announced. To be eligible, a student must be enrolled full-time and maintain a minimum 3.25 grade-point average.

Museum to share former teachers' information
      Keystone Square Museum is collecting biographical information about retired Lampasas County educators to be displayed in a file for museum visitors. Retirees and Lampasas County residents are asked to help by picking up and returning completed data sheets to the museum or to the Lampasas Public Library.

Grant provides free counseling services for area
      Sometimes it seems as if parents and children speak different languages. Rare is the parent whose communication skills aren’t challenged by a child’s occasional apathy, anger or failure to live up to expectations in school or at home. Just as rare is the child who isn’t convinced that his or her parents “just doesn’t get it.”

Communitywide sale to be held
      Adamsville Heritage Association Inc. is sponsoring a communitywide garage sale on March 6 at the Adamsville Volunteer Fire Department both inside and on the grounds. Booths may be rented for a $5 donation to be given to the fire department. The association will have a table for the public to donate items.

Free dental service slated
      The 10th annual Smiles on Wheels will be offered all day Saturday at the former middle school campus.Smile on Wheels is a miniature dental clinic funded with grants that brings portable dental operatories to rural communities which would not typically be able to host a larger dental mission event.

Club plans lunch, bake sale
      The GFWC/TFWC 36 Club will hold a taco salad lunch and bake sale Monday from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at First United Methodist Church’s Wesley Fellowship Hall. Tickets are $7 each for a taco salad, dessert and a drink and are available from club members or at the door. Take-outs will be available. Place an order by phoning 734-2546. There is no delivery.

      Central Texas Herb Society met Jan. 23 for its first meeting of the year at the home of Charlene Nash. President Shirley Beyer welcomed members and guests, and Lea Patel gave a program on herbal remedies for the season.

      The official stock show season started out successfully for Lampasas County at the opening weekend of the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo. Jacqueline and Paige Hensley entered one of the most competitive breeding boer goat shows in the state.

Health official: It's not too late to get H1N1 vaccination

Youths have success at recent stock shows
      Lampasas FFA and 4-H members competed well during the week one breeding swine and heifer show at the Fort Worth Livestock Show and Rodeo. Joseph Vaillancourt had the reserve champion Hampshire breeding gilt, the champion Duroc breeding gilt and was a finalist for senior swine showmanship.

Blood drive set Saturday
      Carter BloodCare will hold a blood drive Saturday from 1-6 p.m. at the Super Wal-Mart in Lampasas. Potential donors must be at least 17 years old (16 with parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds, be in general good health and present photo identification. Donors should eat a nourishing meal prior and drink plenty of water beforehand.
