Mrs. Smith

Mildred “Nanny” Smith, 99, died Jan. 31, 2010, at Regent Care Center Nursing Home in Waco.

Funeral services were Feb. 3 at Pecan Grove Funeral Home in Robinson with Minister Alan Ritchie officiating. Burial was at the family cemetery in Dobyville.

Mrs. Smith was born March 2, 1910, in Marble Falls, the daughter of Vonder and Kitty O’Hair. The family moved to Naruna, and she lived there until moving to Lampasas where she graduated from high school in 1929.

She married Andrew Smith in Lampasas on Sept. 29, 1931, and they lived in the historic Moses Hughes home.

Mrs. Smith was a member of New Road Church of Christ in Waco. She volunteered for many summers as a cook for Camp Hensel Christian Youth Camp in Marble Falls and graded Bible correspondence lessons for the World Bible School.

Mrs. Smith was a former emergency care attendant. She was a seamstress and flower and vegetable gardener.

Survivors include children, Dwane Smith and wife, Linda, of China Spring, Kenneth Smith and wife, Rachel, of Friendswood, Karen Ryan of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Linda Sanders and husband, Mike, of Robinson; one sister, Midge Golliday of Glen Rose; nine grandchildren, Alan Dove, Matt Ryan, Linda Ellen Ryan, Tom Ryan, David Smith, Ray Smith, Michele Clark, Tonya Howard and Scot Sanders; 14 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; nine siblings; and two granddaughters, Roxanne Spatz and Janet Goggins.

Memorials may be made to Waco Senior Ministry Meals on Wheels or Casa Sonrisa Children’s Home Fund at New Road Church of Christ.
