Senator’s record on gun rights

2010-02-02 / Letters

Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison will tell you she supports your gun rights. Really?

She voted for Clinton’s Brady bill, which has directly affected me. Not because I have a criminal record that precludes me from owning a gun, which I don’t, but rather due to bureaucratic incompetence. Every time I try to buy a gun, I get a delay lasting about 48 hours before it is then approved. The impact of that is I cannot buy a gun at a good price at a gun show. By the time my purchase is approved, the gun show is over. This is due to a bad vote by a senator for a bad gun law.

I spent months contacting her office to fix this. She completely ignored me until she discovered I wasn’t going away. The fact that a constituent of hers was adversely impacted by a bad law she voted for was of no interest to her. Finally after endless efforts on my part, she contacted the FBI to see what the problem was with their records. In response, I got a non-response from the FBI indicating how such mistakes were made but making no effort to correct their records. Incidentally, I hold a concealed carry permit due to my lack of a criminal record.

So my problem is a bad anti-gun law voted for by a senator who cares less about the impact on her constituents and an incompetent agency that has no interest in correcting its inaccurate records.

Since then, Senator Hutchison claims to be a friend of gun owners. Is that because she is a true believer in the Second Amendment, or is she afraid of voter retaliation for her true beliefs?
