More than 1.6 inches of precipitation fell in Lampasas Thursday night, according to the archives of The Weather Channel’s Web site, weather.com. Although hard rain continued through mid-morning Friday, weather.com showed only .20 inches of rain that day.

Travis and Mary Ann Herring received 3.5 inches of rain at their ranch north of Lometa.

Harlon and Laresa Fowler’s property at Izoro also got 3.5 inches of rain. The Fowlers were out of town when the storm came through Central Texas, and Mrs. Fowler said the rain appeared to have extended far beyond Lampasas County.

“All the way from Fort Worth -- through Hico, Hamilton and Evant -- there was water running everywhere,” she said.

PHOTO BY DAVID LOWE Heavy rains last week not only swelled Sulphur Creek, but also caused many other rivers and streams to rise several feet. East of Kempner, F.A. Taylor received a 3.35-inch rain.

“Minor out-of-bank flooding” occurred Friday morning at the Lampasas River at Kempner, according to a National Weather Service notice posted on weather.com. The river rose to 18.27 feet, slightly above flood stage, but by about 10 a.m. the water in the river began to recede below the 18-foot flood stage.

About three inches of rain fell at Christine Groves’ home in Rumley. Bill and Betty Rials also had three inches of precipitation at their property just off U.S. Highway 281 in Adamsville.

Lynn Wernette reported slightly less moisture in Nix, as she had 2.95 inches of rain when she checked at 7:45 a.m. Friday.
Lucy Creek spilled out of its banks as it rapidly filled with rainwater.
