Stained-glass demo open to public
Stained-glass artist Tom Downs will be on hand for a demonstration at the Llano Fine Arts Gallery. Llano Fine Arts Guild will present a program on stained glass at its Feb. 1 meeting from 10 a.m. to noon at the art gallery.
New member Tom Downs, a master stained-glass artist, will demonstrate some of the techniques used in constructing panels, lamps and other pieces of stained glass.
Downs took an interest in stained glass when he began to study church windows and how different light affected the colors and how the pieces intermingled not only to create the pattern, but how changes in light enhanced the artistic meaning of the glass panel.
He specializes in lamps (he has made 350), and will show construction of a prairie lamp.
Cost for the demonstration and potluck luncheon is $5. It will be followed by a business meeting at 1 p.m.
In addition, Downs will conduct an intermediate stained-glass workshop on Feb. 8-10 at the gallery. The workshop, which concentrates on lamps, is limited to experienced glass artists who have the necessary equipment and tools. No equipment will be furnished.
