Young Farmers attend convention

Several Lampasas County Young Farmers participated in educational field tours to the historic King Ranch and Sea Turtle Research and Rescue Center. Members, from left, Jeffery Hawes, Rod Freeman, Bill Young, Terri Young (new state vice president from Area 7), and Nikki Young toured the research center on the tip of South Padre Island. The Lampasas Independent School District Young Farmers adult education program sent a large delegation to the 56th annual Texas Young Farmers Convention and Leadership Conference Jan. 14-17 at South Padre Island.

Member Terri Young was inducted as the new Area 7 state vice president.

Dr. Steve Forsythe, LISD agriscience instructor and Young Farmer adviser, received a 30- year adult education adviser tenure award. He also was a workshop speaker, addressing “Publicizing your local adult education program.”

YF member Clovia Ketchum was recognized for her two-year tenure as outgoing state YF vice president from Area 7, and YF members Bill Young, Rod Freeman and Jeffery Hawes participated in the Farm and Ranch Management Contest where Young placed fifth.

Lampasas County Young Farmer member Terri Young, third from left, was installed as the new Area 7 state vice president of the Texas Young Farmers Association. Young Farmers members Tommy Ketchum, Nikki Young and Cynthia Forsythe also participated in the annual conference.
