Mustangs drop LHS to 0-2 in district
The Mustangs were simply on fire, and the Badgers could not do much about it.
Marble Falls defended its home court Tuesday evening by connecting on 22 of its 30 fieldgoal attempts en route to a 63-46 victory.
While the Mustangs scored at will, the Badgers, on the other hand, could not find their offensive rhythm until the fourth quarter.
“[Marble Falls] scored 12 points on power layups by the bigs, and they only missed two shots in the first period,” Badgers’ head coach Scott Harrelson said. “That set the tempo for the rest of the game.
“We got the shots we wanted -- easy, wide-open looks from four to eight feet -- and missed.”
Lampasas missed 26 of its 40 shots from the floor and 13 of its 32 free throws.
Eduardo Davila led the Badgers with 11 points, while Brandon Scott added 10 points, three rebounds and two steals. Ethan Byers led the team with seven rebounds and scored eight points to go with three assists and three steals.
Despite trailing by 22 points in the third quarter, Lampasas rallied to cut the lead to nine points in the final period. Missed shots late in the game, however, led to several game-clinching fast-break baskets for the Mustangs.
The Badgers (8-14, 0-2 District 25-4A) play the first of three consecutive home games tonight as they host No. 8 Killeen (19-7, 2-0).
