President-elect fills in for ill officer
Members of the GFWC/TFWC 36 Club were disappointed when they arrived for the Jan. 14 meeting to find out the guest speaker was out with the flu.
Texas Federation of Women’s Clubs president Marjorie Williamson was not able to be at the presentation at the Hancock Springs Hostess House, but Crystal Hammett, local club member and TFWC Capitol District president-elect, filled in for Ms. Williamson.
Mrs. Hammett gave Ms. Williamson’s presentation on concentric circles that guide individual’s lives, and the federated clubs from general federation to Texas federation to individual clubs.
Circles of Study soon became Circles of Service to Others.
President Amy McDaniel presided over the meeting with 19 members in attendance.
Susan Detrick, projects committee chairman, discussed the Feb. 8 taco salad lunch and bake sale fund-raiser at First United Methodist Church’s Fellowship Hall. Each member signed up for tasks associated with the event.
Members also took tickets to sell and were asked to provide a bake sale item. Tickets are $7, with take-outs available. No deliveries are offered.
Hostesses for the meeting were Dorothy Duncan, Virginia Blaylock, Jean Phillips and Gay Gorman.
Next meeting is Feb. 11. Members will meet at First Presbyterian Church parking lot at 10:30 a.m. to carpool to Fort Hood for a Dutch-treat lunch at the Officers’ Club, followed by a guided tour of the 1st Cavalry Division Museum.
