Jimmy Nuckles, owner of Jimmy’s Antiques in Burnet, was guest speaker for the Lampasas County Retired Teachers Association meeting on Jan. 5 in the Lampasas Independent School District Board Room.

Mrs. Nuckles examined, discussed, evaluated and estimated the worth of items brought in by members.

President Mary Casbeer presided, and Charlene Ruzicka gave the invocation. Dave Hausmann led the group in several songs without the usual assistance from Gene Landrum, who could not attend.

Members voted to donate to the Stillwell Foundation Retirement Home in Waco in honor of its 45th anniversary.

Mrs. Casbeer and Kay Gray Fox were elected delegates to the State TRTA Convention in Arlington on April 13-15. Members were reminded of the District XII Spring Workshop in Waco on May 6 at the Region XII Education Service Center.

The club president called for reports from committee chairmen. Records for steps walked and volunteer hours for 2009 were called for by health care and community service chairs Bonnie Millican and Ruthie Martin, respectively.

Members who were absent should phone or email their steps and hours to the chairmen to enable them to get reports ready to submit.

Next meeting is Feb. 2 at 10:30 a.m. in LISD Board Room. Ken McDaniel of Edward Jones will give the program.

Several members had a Dutch treat lunch at the Green Frog in the Hostess House after the meeting.

Any retiree from the education system is eligible for membership and is encouraged to attend meetings and/or join the local association.
