The Lampasas Independent School District will administer H1N1 flu shots on several days for students and community members.

Jamie Jones, LISD health coordinator, encourages parents to fill out the forms sent home with their children to allow shots to be administered.

Parents do not need to be present when their children receive the shots, she said.

“The H1N1 is in decline right now, but like any illness it has its peaks and valleys,” said Mrs. Jones. “With the seasonal flu season coming this month and in February, we are trying to get as many vaccinated as possible.”

Even those who already have had the seasonal flu or H1N1 are encouraged to be vaccinated, Mrs. Jones said. “The Texas Department of State Health Services believes the shot may protect people from passing the flu or from being a carrier.”

Vaccinations will be administered by the LISD on the following schedule for students:

• Monday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Taylor Creek Elementary.

• Tuesday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Hanna Springs Elementary.

• Jan. 22, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Kline Whitis Elementary.

H1N1 shot clinics for the community and students will be held on the following schedule.

• Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Lampasas Middle School, 902 S. Broad St.

• Jan. 19, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., former middle school cafeteria.

• Feb. 22, new Lampasas High School, 2716 U.S. Highway 281 South.

All vaccines are free.

Parents who wish their children to be vaccinated must return an information packet with the following forms: screening questionnaire for the injectable influenza vaccine; completed form attached to the addendum to 2009 H1N1 inactivated influenza vaccine informa- tion statement; screening questionnaire (front and back pages) for the intranasal H1N1 vaccine; and the completed form for the addendum to the live, attenuated influenza vaccine information statement.

Community members may pick up forms at each of the vaccination clinics.
