Rude treatment

2010-01-05 / Letters

I have lived in Lampasas all my life, and for the most part people here are polite and kind. That was not the case, however, on Dec. 28.

My husband had a citation for blowing through a yellow light, and as he was under it, the light turned red. Nevertheless, he ran the red light. I went up to Lampasas Municipal Court to pay this citation as I have every other time any of us received our tickets.

I stood there five minutes as I watched the ladies finish up typing and filing. Finally, one lady asked if she could help me. I told her why I was there, and she abruptly stopped me and said she could not help me. I asked why, and she informed me it was my husband’s ticket, and she could not take the payment from me. She also informed me I could drop it off in the overnight box. I asked when did they change the rules and that I always pay for my husband’s citations because he works until 5:30 p.m. every day. The lady rolled her eyes at me and said it must not have been at this Municipal Court and dismissed me.

I went ahead and picked up my husband and took him back up there, and she looked at me and then at him and asked now is this your ticket? I was appalled.

We paid our ticket and left, but I have never been treated so rudely by a public servant before. From the time I walked in, they acted as though I was an inconvenience to them. You would think as many good people need jobs, they would be a little more selective in their hiring process.
