Mrs. Amsler

Graveside services for Lucille C. Amsler, 85, of Bryan are Dec. 29, 2009, at Hempstead Cemetery in Hempstead.

Mrs. Amsler died Dec. 26 at St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan.

She was born April 8, 1924, in Big Spring, to Charlie and Ruby Chamberland.

Mrs. Amsler moved to Hempstead as a teenager and graduated from Hempstead High School in 1940.

In 1948, she married Dan Wood Amsler.

Mrs. Amsler was appointed tax assessor-collector for Waller County in 1954 and served until 1956.

From 1956-1970, she was the bookkeeper for the Hempstead Chevrolet dealership.

In 1970, the couple moved to a ranch in Lampasas where she worked for a title company.

Mrs. Hempstead enjoyed landscape and still-life painting and was active in First Presbyterian Church.

After her husband’s death in 1984, Mrs. Amsler moved to College Station.

Survivors include sons and their families, Charles Amsler of Bedford and Robert Amsler of Carrollton; a brother and sister-inlaw, C.C. and Sarah Lou Chamberland of Bryan; a sister and brother-in-law, Carol Ann and Bill Eplen of Waller; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Bob Chamberland.

Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the charity of one’s choice.
