Be thankful for what we have!
I want to take time during this wonderful season to say thank you to the parents, kids, administration and our community for what we have in Lampasas. Sometimes I take for granted what we provide here.
First, we have a beautiful new high school and elementary campus that allow our kids to go to school in a brand-new environment with new technology and facilities. We have a beautiful town that draws people from all around to come for various events throughout the year. We have many churches where people can worship at the place of their choice.
Many times, we as people in the community find negative issues to complain about, but for the most part we have many positive events happening in Lampasas. I was always taught that if we are going to fix a problem in the community, we need to be a part of the process and not a part of the problem. There are issues we need to address in a positive way that will continue to help our community and school system grow.
Second, we have good leadership in our school administration and in our city and county government. These leaders were elected by the citizens of Lampasas or hired by the school board. I have had the opportunity to be the athletic director/head football coach in other school districts, which has allowed me to see the operation of those districts and communities. There are times when we do not agree with the school system or our local government, but I can assure you it is not always greener on the other side.
Let us appreciate what we have and be thankful for the progress being made in the school system of LISD and in the community of Lampasas.
Have a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Joey McQueen is the Lampasas High School athletic director and the Badgers’ head football coach.
