Former local grocer dies
Rowe Crocker Former longtime local grocery store owner Rowe Crocker, 85, died Dec. 11, 2009.
A memorial service was held at Great Hills Baptist Church in Austin.
Mr. Crocker was born July 25, 1924, in Kerens, the son of Amos and Sally Belle Crocker.
The family moved to Lampasas in 1939.
Mr. Crocker and his brother, Lloyd, were in the grocery business prior to their military service. Mr. Crocker served in the U.S. Army from 1943-46.
They opened Crocker’s Food Mart, which they operated together until it was sold in 1981.
On Oct. 18, 1948, he married Ruth Helwig, and she preceded him in death in 1970.
On June 7, 1974, Mr. Crocker married Eileen Rains Ames.
After selling the grocery store, Mr. Crocker worked at People’s National Bank in Lampasas until 1985 when he and his wife moved to Temple, where Mr. Crocker was in the real estate business until he retired in 1997.
They moved to Austin in 2003.
Survivors include his wife; daughters, Jill Crocker of Austin, and Judy Thiebaud and husband, Rick, of Banning, Calif.; a grandson, Mike Thiebaud and wife, Ashley and great-granddaughter, Hannah Eileen, of Banning, Calif.; a sister-in-law, Tyda Crocker of Lampasas; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Lloyd and Johnnie Crocker.
