What great kids we have!
Many times, we adults get frustrated with our own kids and the kids we teach or coach at school. Even though we may be frustrated with their attitudes, we all know our kids are good and do good things in school, church and the community.
When we were growing up, times were different. We did not have as much technology, so we worked in a different way than our young people do now.
I used to think that all kids should act, dress and be the same, and this is by no means the norm. Over the years, I have seen kids from all backgrounds do deeds that they or we did not think they could achieve. An example is our Student Council, which is hosting blood drives for our community.
We also have kids who volunteer their time for civic duties, such as art shows and community events. We have students who are involved not only in extracurricular events such as athletics, band, cheerleading and drill team but also in academic events and FFA.
In today’s world, colleges and those in the work place are looking for well-rounded students. It makes me proud to see students who become successful in life due to their time given to a service project. When students learn respect for others and to give of their time for people who need help, they will appreciate what they receive later in life.
I have seen our students volunteer in helping clean and move items at the museum and moving items for the elderly. I remember my grandmother saying, “You will be remembered for what you gave and not for what you get.” Sometimes students do not understand that statement, but in time they will understand the gratification they receive from the people receiving the good deed.
So, be proud of our Lampasas students. They are the future, and the future is looking good.
