RTA meets, has luncheon
Lampasas County Retired Teachers Association met for a covered-dish lunch and meeting on Dec. 1 at Lometa United Methodist Church.
After an invocation by John Davis, Peggy Wolfe led the pledge to the Christian flag.
President Mary Casbeer conducted a brief business meeting before introducing program chairman Janie Potts.
Mrs. Potts, who has been in charge of the programs for December meetings for several years, presented the Lometa United Methodist Church Bell Ringers, who played a selection of Christmas carols.
Association members then played “Christmas Feud,” based on television’s Family Feud. Members divided into teams, and each group took turns playing. Categories were Christmas themed, including favorite Christmas songs, favorite Christmas food and others.
Gene Landrum led the members in singing carols, while the hostesses from Lometa readied the food for serving.
Bennie Bulloch, treasurer, received a list of members-at-large from the area and information on a plan to increase membership. Associations will be rewarded monetarily for increasing membership from the list of retirees who have joined the state but not the local association.
Retirees on the list will be contacted and encouraged to join the local association, which strives to reach 100 or more members.
“High numbers influence legislators to listen,” said a group spokesman.
Next meeting is Jan. 5 at 10:30 a.m. at the Lampasas Independent School District Board Room.
Jimmy Nuckles of Jimmy’s Antiques in Burnet will present the program.
Anyone retired from an education job is eligible for RTA membership.
