PHOTO BY CHERI JAY-WIENECKE Lometa FFA member Kyle Molter and his pig,Rocky, will be among the Lampasas County exhibitors and projects lining up for Saturday’s Lometa Junior Livestock Show. Pens are in place, sand is raked and readied, and across Lampasas County livestock exhibitors are readying for Saturday’s Lometa Junior Livestock Show.
Around 200 entries are expected this weekend as a precursor to January’s county show and the spring’s major shows.
“The show is set up to optimize the showing experience for exhibitors,” said Lometa agriculture science instructor Brad Barnett. “It is an excellent opportunity, especially for young first-time feeders, to improve showmanship skills and the stock show experience as a whole.”
Barnett said approximately 50 sheep and goats are entered along with more than 100 hogs, and 45 head of cattle in the heifer and steer divisions.
Weigh-in is at 7 a.m. with weight cards to be turned in by 8:30 a.m. Classes begin at 9 a.m. with sheep, then goats, swine and cattle.
A concession stand, provided by Lometa FFA supporters, will serve a barbecue lunch as well as breakfast, snack and drink items. All proceeds will go toward construction of a new show trailer for the Lometa FFA.
