Kenneth Joe Thompson, 69, of Kempner died Dec. 6, 2009, at a local nursing home.

No formal services are planned at this time. The body will be cremated.

Mr. Thompson was born Aug. 16, 1940, in Lampasas County near Lometa. He was the son of Delmar Joe and Lucille Gaddy Thompson.

Mr. Thompson was married to Ruth Ann McGregor.

He joined the U.S. Army and retired after 20 years of service as a communications specialist.

Mr. Thompson also worked as a correctional officer for the Texas Prison System at Gatesville. He was an expert pool player and a member of the American Pool Association.

Survivors include his wife of Kempner; a son, Joseph Wayne Thompson of Mexia; a daughter, Lena Rae Thompson of San Antonio; a sister, Betty King of Lampasas; a brother, Jerry Eugene Thompson; three stepchildren, Jerry Bowles of Oceanside, Calif., Cathy Jaskiewicz of Viera, Fla., and Christine Hiljus of Minneapolis, Minn.; two nieces; five granddaughters; and a grandson.

He was preceded in death by a

brother, P.K. Thompson.
