LMS girls’ basketball excels at tournament

The Lampasas Middle School Lady Badgers’ seventh-grade Blue team earned third place at the Five Hills Tournament in Copperas Cove over the weekend.

Paced by Lauren Beckwith’s combined 34 points in three games, Lampasas claimed a pair of victories, including a 29-13 win in the third-place game.

The Lady Badgers opened the tournament with an impressive 21- point victory, 32-11, over Lamar.

Beckwith and Blake Webb tied for game-high scoring honors with 11 points apiece. Jessica Arie was next in line with six, while Stacie Olivarez and Presli Peters each added two points.

In their second-round contest, the Lady Badgers fell 35-24 to Copperas Cove Lee.

Alysaa Dickens and Beckwith each posted nine points in the loss. Arie scored four, and Webb finished with two points.

In the final game, Lampasas ran into Lake Belton and easily claimed the third-place trophy by 16 points.

Beckwith scored more by herself (15 pts.) than the entire Lee squad produced as a whole. Webb added six points, and Olivarez, Marisa Maldonado, Arie and Dickens chipped in two points each.

In LMS boys’ action, the seventhgrade White team fell to 1-2 on the season after losing to Dripping Springs 49-18.

The Badgers’ top scorer was Cory Winchell with six points. Wes McIntire scored four for Lampasas.

The seventh-grade Blue team improved to a perfect 3-0 with a 40-34 home win over Dripping Springs.

Lampasas’ seventh-grade Gray team lost to Dripping Springs 26- 9.

Cody Snyder scored four for the Badgers. Eric Jones recorded three points, and Cory Bywater added two.
