Oakalla resident Lila Mae Petty Smith, 75, died Nov. 27, 2009, at Scott & White Memorial Hospital in Temple.

Funeral services were Dec. 3 at Sneed Funeral Chapel in Lampasas with Minister Elvis Fisher officiating. Burial was at Smith Cemetery at Oakalla.

Mrs. Smith was born Aug. 28, 1934, in Lampasas, to Lyle H. and Eula Mae Morris Petty.

She married Floyd Elza Smith on Feb. 20, 1954, and he preceded her in death in 2001.

Mrs. Smith was a professional educator. She taught at various elementary campuses in Round Rock and Copperas Cove independent school districts.

She was a member of the Eastern Star and had attended Oak Hills Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Floyd E. Smith and wife, Cheree, and James Smith, all of Oakalla; three grandchildren, Jennifer Megan Smith, James Cody Smith and Kevin Michael Smith; a brother, Gene Petty of Austin; and a sister-in-law, Dean Spivey.

She was preceded in death by a brother, L.D. Petty.

Memorials may be made to Oakalla Volunteer Fire Department or Smith Cemetery Association.
