CTC lists December non-credit courses

The Central Texas College Continuing Education Department is offering a variety of non-credit classes in December including scuba lessons, holistic healing, sewing, cooking and many others. Registration is under way for the following classes:

Discover Scuba: Get the experience of a lifetime while discovering adventure from the weightless exhilaration of breathing underwater. The program takes participants underwater in a swimming pool under the supervision of a PADI dive professional. All equipment is provided. The class meets Wednesday from 7:30-9 p.m. Cost is $36.

Color Therapy Meditation: Learn to trust one’s intuition and determine which color the body needs for balancing by using different colored scarves, boas and flowers during meditation. The instructor has been a holistic health practitioner and licensed massage therapist for 13 years. Class meets Thursday from 6-8 p.m. Cost is $34.

Heartsaver AED with First Aid: Make sure to be prepared to help someone in a life-threatening situation by knowing how to administer CPR effectively. Students are required to purchase a course book. Students who do not bring the course book to class will not be issued a CPR card. This course meets requirements for childcare workers. Class meets Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Cost is $43.

Basic Bookkeeping: Students will gain a basic understanding of reports such as balance statements and profit and loss (income) statements. The course also covers reconciliations, assets, liabilities, cost of goods, expenses, journal entries and payroll issues. Be prepared to take notes. Class meets Dec. 5 and Dec. 12 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cost is $41.

No Sewing Required: Have fun learning how to make a fleece pillow or blanket without having to thread a single needle. Plan to spend approximately $30 on supplies. A supply list will be sent to all students. Class meets Dec. 11 from 12 to 2:30 p.m. Cost is $12.

CPR for Healthcare Providers: This is the American Heart Association course in basic life support designed for healthcare providers which include physicians, nurses, EMTs and allied health personnel. AED is also covered in the class. Students are required to purchase a course book and bring a pocket mask with a one-way valve to class. Students who do not bring the course book will not be issued a CPR card. Class is Dec. 12 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Cost is $43.

Loaf & Quick Breads: This new class will teach participants how to make quick and easy breads to go with morning coffee or to give away as gifts. Recipes, which will be provided, include banana bread and cinnamon roll coffee cake. Class meets Dec. 12 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Cost is $46.
