Lady Badgers’ slide continues into break
PHOTO BY RICHARD AKRIDGE Lampasas senior Lauren Barlow goes up for one of her 16 shot attempts Tuesday evening against Killeen Ellison. The post scored a game-high 20 points and grabbed five rebounds. The Lady Badgers were looking forward to playing six games in six days prior to the Thanksgiving break.
Now, they are simply looking forward to the break.
After winning three consecutive games to reach the championship of the Crossroads of Texas Basketball Tournament over the weekend, Lampasas lost three in a row, putting their record at 3-5 heading into the holiday.
Lampasas went on the road Monday night and fell to Harker Heights by nine points, 59-50.
The Lady Badgers sandwiched a pair of 17-point quarters in between eight-point performances in the first and fourth quarters.
Seniors Lauren Barlow and Sarah Bishop led Lampasas with 15 points apiece, but got little help from their teammates as only one other player -- Kayla Prescott -- produced more than four points.
The following night, the Lady Badgers returned home to host Killeen Ellison and showed little improvement, falling by 16 points, 53-37.
Lampasas led after the opening quarter, but quickly lost control in the second period, falling behind for the first time in the game at 19- 17.
They never led again.
The Lady Eagles outscored Lampasas 43-24 over the final three quarters.
Barlow led the team with 20 points on eight-of-16 shooting and added five rebounds. Junior Madison Morris came off the bench and scored five points.
Bishop failed to post any points, but had a solid outing with four rebounds, four assists and a steal.
Late in the game, varsity newcomers Kallen Vann and Jennifer Herron came alive, combining to score five of the team’s 13 fourth-quarter points. Barlow added six in the period.
The Lady Badgers are off until Tuesday when they return to the court for a road game against Belton. Lampasas enters another furious stretch next weekend when it travels to the Burnet tournament where it will face some stiff competition.
