Garden Club celebrates 50 years

The L-M Garden and Civic Club of Lometa continued to celebrate its 50 years in existence by holding its annual Thanksgiving dinner on November 16 when 36 members and guests enjoyed a traditional Thanksgiving turkey with all the trimmings.

Hostesses Patricia Fennen, Barbara Hampton, Jonell McMahan and Susan Stone adorned the tables with wicker, autumn leaves, ornamental squash and fresh fall fruits.

Before the dinner, Mrs. Stone, club president, welcomed everyone and then introduced vice president Tico Hicks.

Mrs. Hicks then introduced the Lometa High School FFA Ag Issues team. They presented their competition program regarding the building of transmission lines.

Questions from the floor indicated it was a very relevant topic.

Following the meal, Kathryn Butler, the first president of the organization, gave a brief history of the club, and she then introduced special members in attendance.

Charter members attending were Mrs. Butler, Joyce Hightower and Hannah Kendrick.

Honorary members attending were Beth King and Pearl Potts.

The next meeting will be a Christmas party on Dec. 21 at the home of Janie Potts.
