Lometa Council agrees to sell lot to county

Items on both old and new agendas were dedicated to correcting an error when Lometa City Council members met recently.

The council approved the sale of lots one and two of the Montvale Addition at an earlier meeting on the request of Precinct 3 Commissioner Lowell Ivey. When the matter progressed, surveyors caught a mistake in the sales’s lot specifications. The council rescinded the sale.

Council members then agreed to abandon a portion of Eighth Street, south of Oak Street not currently used as a street, and sell to the county block 37 of the Montvale Addition and a portion of Eighth Street.

As discussed in October, the property is used for county purposes and will be fenced for protection of equipment and supplies.

In other business, all 12 of the council’s votes for Lampasas Central Appraisal District board member were cast for Lometa resident Dave Hamilton.

In preparation for asphalt application in the spring, the council authorized the addition of new base and roadwork on Oak Street from U.S. Highway 183 to the railroad tracks. Other streets to be included in the project are Magnolia and Hickory.

In its final item of new business, council agreed to move its city payroll from biweekly to weekly.

In department reports, K.A. Morris, representing the Lometa Volunteer Fire Department, noted a FEMA grant allowed for the purchase of 10 new air packs. However, the department is concerned that the neighboring community of Adamsville is without the equipment, and Morris requested the council approve donation of Lometa’s five used air packs to Adamsville.

Councilman Chuck Lymber suggested Lometa loan Adamsville the air packs until the item can be officially added to the next agenda.
