Browning Garden Club observes Veterans Day
Veterans Day was observed recently by members of the Browning Community Garden Club and Killeen Garden Club at the Blue Star Memorial Highway marker on U.S. Highway 190 near Fort Hood’s Child Development Center.
Marlene Gillman, president of the Killeen Garden Club, gave the welcome address and recognized Col. William Hill, Fort Hood garrison commander, Edna Wayne Gilmore and Doris Magnor, members of the original steering committee, and Sharron Van Weelden, president of Browning Community Garden Club.
Jay Gillman provided a short history of the Blue Star Memorial markers named for the star in the center of the service flag and a project of the National Council of State Garden Clubs.
Hill, a graduate of Texas A&M, placed a wreath at the marker and spoke briefly on current events at the Army post as well as his love of gardening.
Benediction was given by Mrs. Gillman to conclude the ceremony.
