LISD to participate in new parent notification system
The Lampasas Independent School District will soon become part of the SchoolMessenger system, according to Superintendent Randy Hoyer.
SchoolMessenger provides notification services for emergency broadcasts, parental outreach and student attendance communications for students in prekindergarten through 12th grade and their parents.
The system is programmed to call the primary phone number of parents for a variety of reasons that impact the safety and academic performance of students.
The system can contact parents through a phone call, e-mail and/or text message.
“SchoolMessenger will be used to complement our emergency preparedness procedures and to inform parents of upcoming school events such as testing and parent meetings,” said Hoyer.
Additionally, the program will be used to notify parents when their child is absent from school.
“I am very excited about the ability to rapidly communicate to students and parents information pertaining to an emergency or safety situation,” said the superintendent. “Already this year we could have used the system when we delayed the start of school several weeks ago due to low-water flooding, and with the unfortunate incident at Fort Hood several weeks ago.”
LISD administrators will receive training in the use of SchoolMessenger on Wednesday, and plans are to launch a test shortly after that.
