The Library Foundation of Lampasas' BBQ for Books fund-raiser last week has been termed a big success.
More than $4,000 was netted by the event, where members of the community bought barbecue lunch take-out orders at Lampasas Public Library. Deliveries also were made to different points across town on orders from 10 or more people.
Said Jennifer Ewing, a Library Foundation spokesperson, of the event: "It was very successful."
The foundation is working on a library expansion project, and a Fort Worth architectural firm will unveil a master plan in early 2010.
The library was a beehive of activity Oct. 26 -- the day of the benefit event -- as teams of workers assembled the barbecue lunches, and other volunteers fanned out across town to make deliveries.
Workers included Carole Marwitz, Barbara Mullican, Jean Sutton, Mimi Cole, Patsy Bradley, Frances Killingsworth, Maxine Rikard, June Davis, Wanda Lesley, Martha Casbeer, Bonnie Millican, Phyllis Carroll, Martha Johnson, Kathleen Hughes, Charlotte Johnson, Celia Davis, other Library Board members and Sheila Wolfe.
Workers who handled delivery of the lunches were Don Rikard, Tom Casbeer, Karin Tubbs, Mike Fox, Miss Ewing, Ed Lilley, Dave Hausmann, Mike Martin and Dick Parker.
Those who helped with sorting were Kay Gray- Fox, Gail Callahan, Tracy Guthrie, Marta Ellison and Sue Lilley.
