Texans approve all ballot proposals

Though all 11 of the 2009 Texas constitutional amendments passed statewide, Lampasas voters nixed two of the propositions in Tuesday balloting: Propositions 1 and 4.

Although less than 12 percent of registered voters cast ballots in Lampasas County, that surpassed the state average of about 8 percent who went to the polls.

Following is a short overview of each proposition and how it fared across the state and locally.

Proposition 1: Finance buffer areas adjacent to military installations. Texas: in favor, 55.2 percent; against, 44.8 percent. Lampasas: in favor, 39.6 percent; against, 60.4 percent.

Proposition 2: Regulate how homestead ad valorem taxes are calculated. Texas: in favor, 68.2 percent; against, 31.8 percent. Lampasas: in favor, 76.7 percent; against, 23.3 percent.

Proposition 3: Provide uniform standards for appraising property. Texas: in favor, 65.6 percent; against, 34.4 percent. Lampasas: in favor, 74 percent; against, 26 percent.

Proposition 4: Establish fund to assist emerging research universities. Texas: in favor, 56.8 percent; against, 43.2 percent. Lampasas: in favor, 39.3 percent; against, 60.7 percent.

Proposition 5: Allow single appraisal review board for adjoining entities. Texas: in favor, 61.9 percent; against, 38.1 percent. Lampasas: in favor, 60.2 percent; against, 39.8 percent.

Proposition 6: Authorize Veterans Land Board to issue bonds. Texas: in favor, 65.8 percent; against, 34.2 percent. Lampasas: in favor, 63.1 percent; against, 36.9 percent.

Proposition 7: Allow Texas Guard officer or member to hold other civil office. Texas: 73 percent; against, 27 percent. Lampasas: in favor, 75.9 percent; against, 24.1 percent.

Proposition 8: Authorize the state to contribute to veterans' hospitals. Texas: in favor, 74.9 percent; against, 25.1 percent. Lampasas: in favor, 70.6 percent; against, 29.4 percent.

Proposition 9: Protect the right of the public to access public beaches. Texas: in favor, 77 percent; against, 23 percent. Lampasas: in favor, 67.6 percent; against, 32.4 percent.

Proposition 10: Permit emergency service district board members' terms to extend up to four years. Texas: in favor, 73 percent; against, 27 percent. Lampasas: in favor, 62 percent; against, 38 percent.

Proposition 11: Place limits on power of eminent domain. Texas: in favor, 81 percent; against, 19 percent. Lampasas: in favor, 87.8 percent; against, 12.2 percent.
