A fire at Monica Lozano's residence, located at 1308 E. Avenue H, appears to have begun in a cinder block addition at the far eastern side of the single-story house, said Chris Ford, training officer and fire investigator for the Lampasas Fire Department.

Mrs. Lozano's son and two grandsons -- all juveniles --accidentally started the fire, Ford said, while playing with cigarette lighters. A couch ignited near the entrance of the cinder block addition, and flames spread to the ceiling.

A call about the blaze came in at 2:55 p.m., and the fire department dispatched two trucks, Ford said. Firefighters contained the flames in less than 10 minutes, Ford said.

The addition to the home sustained heavy fire damage, and the rest of the home was lightly damaged by smoke and water, Ford said.

Mrs. Lozano and Jessica Lozano, her daughter, were inside their residence when the fire began, Ford said. The three boys went to a home next door, while Mrs. Lozano and her daughter waited at their residence for firefighters to complete their work.

A message was left with the American Red Cross on Friday, Ford said, although the family already had arranged a place to stay for the night.
