Water line for West Fourth Street

2009-10-27 / Letters

We moved to Lampasas and purchased our home in September 2007. I noticed from time to time our water line is cut off to our home. And when it is turned back on, we have dirt and sand in it. It stops up my water filter to our house, our washing machine and refrigerator filters. We have to replace them all the time because of this problem.

In the early part of 2009, we met with Randy Clark [director of Public Works] about this problem. Mr. Clark said the money was from a grant, and it will be done in the spring of 2009.

I went up Monday, Oct. 19 to see when we would get our new water line. Mr. Clark said, "Mrs. Sypert, you have to understand the city had to put a new water line in for the new high school. You know the land was donated for a new high school." I asked Mr. Clark what that had to do with my water line on West Fourth Street. Mr. Clark said, "I will have your water line in by November." I asked, "November 2009?" Mr. Clark said, "Yes, Mrs. Sypert."

So I did a little research and found out the first bond election was in October 2006. The land for the new high school was donated Sept. 25, 2006. My point is you have to have all your ducks in a row before you go to the taxpayers for a vote to raise taxes on the new high school. So he knew in 2006 he was going to put a new water line in for the high school.

Plus, I live just around the corner from a new development on Sixth Street and Willis. They have new city water lines, and out of seven lots on this development there is only one house. This was all done in 2009. I live right on Fourth Street. Why didn't they do the two houses on West Fourth at that time?

I just wonder on Nov. 2, 2009 if I will have a new city water line to my house. I have paid city taxes all this time we have lived here on West Fourth Street.
