LISD urges parents to return forms
While the Lampasas Independent School District may not reap the same rewards from federal Impact Aid as do the Killeen and Copperas Cove school districts, the money it does generate for Lampasas is important, said LISD Superintendent Randy Hoyer.
The Lampasas school district receives $40,000-$50,000 each year in Impact Aid.
Funds are paid based on the number of military students in each district.
And while the dollar amount is not significant when held next to the LISD's multi-million-dollar budget, every little bit helps, said Hoyer.
Funds are based on the numbers the LISD turns in on its annual Federal Parent-Pupil Sur- vey, and Hoyer said it is important that everyone with any connection to a military base or facility return the survey to school officials.
LISD will distribute the survey Wednesday, and parents and guardians are encouraged to return the paperwork in a timely manner.
"People need to realize it's not only for active-duty military but for anyone who has a connection to the military base, including civilian personnel employed on federal property anywhere in Texas on Nov. 10, 2008," Hoyer said.
And uniformed military services include Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and U.S. public health services -- and it applies to members stationed anywhere in the world.
Anyone with questions may phone the District Administration office at 556-6224.
"The Impact Aid funding we receive assists us in providing quality educational programs for all students," said the superintendent.
