Retired Army Col. Ronald William Davis of Kempner died Oct. 13, 2009.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Mr. Davis was born May 30, 1936, in Wilmington, N.C., and was a 1954 graduate of New Hanover High School where he was awarded the ROTC's Cape Fear Sword.

A 1958 distinguished military graduate of The Citadel, Mr. Davis was commissioned a second lieutenant in the infantry.

He received a juris doctorate degree from University of North Carolina School of Law in 1964, and became a member of the Judge Advocate General's Corps.

Mr. Davis retired in 1980 after 30 years of active duty.

Licensed to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court, he was a member of the North Carolina Bar and the Texas Bar Association.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Susan Parsons Davis; a son, Bradley W. Davis of North Carolina; a daughter, Virginia G. Davis of Kempner; sisters, Kathryn Davis Harris of Albermarle, N.C. and Frances Davis Hansen of St. Cloud, Minn.; and several nieces and nephews.
