Act of kindness appreciated

2009-10-13 / Letters

On Tuesday, Oct. 6, a very nice thing happened to me. I made a quick run to HEB to get a few items required to finish some cooking projects I had begun. I gathered up the items, the cashier rang them up, and I prepared to pay my bill. Only thing: I had left my wallet on the dining room table, so I had no credit card, check or cash to pay for my groceries.

The cashier explained that since there were no perishable items, she would sack the things up and leave them at the business office for me to come back and pick up.

A very kind man who I did not know was in line behind me. He told the cashier to put my bill on his tab. He said there was no sense in my having to go all the way back home and then return to the store. The bill was about $8.

I so appreciate his help and kindness because I was in an embarrassing jam and was very annoyed at myself for having been so careless. Made my day in a special way!
