Predator Awareness Workshop set

2009-10-13 / Agribusiness

Texas AgriLife Extension Service in Lampasas, Burnet, and Llano counties will present a Predator Awareness Workshop beginning with registration at 8:45 a.m. on Nov. 10 at the Lampasas County Youth Livestock Show Barn at the intersection of U.S. Highways 281 North and Highways 183/190 West.

Participants will receive information on predators and predator issues including interpreting the physical evidence of predation, predator biology, predators and wildlife management, predators as vectors of zoonotic disease, coyotes, tools and techniques (non-lethal approaches, traps, snares, M-44s, calling, etc.), and ethics involved in predator management.

"Predator damage is responsible for thousands of dollars in lost revenue for livestock producers in Lampasas County," said Jason Byrd, county Extension agent for agriculture and natural resources in Lampasas County. "The idea behind this workshop is to bring landowners and managers up to date on what is going on in our particular area with regard to predators, and what can be done about it."

Five continuing education units will be offered for those with a pesticide license. Participants will receive a catered noon meal on site.

Please RSVP to the Lampasas County Extension office at 556-8271 or at www.lampasas@ag.tamu.edu by Nov. 3 in order to get an accurate lunch count.

Cost is $15 if registered by the Nov. 3 deadline or $25 thereafter. Contact the Extension office for more information.
