GOLF

The 26th annual Highland Lakes Family Crisis Center Golf Tournament will be held Oct. 24 at the Delaware Springs Golf Course in Burnet.

In addition to the tournament, there will be a silent auction.

Various sponsorships are available.

Interested parties wanting more information should call 830-693-3656 and ask for the golf coordinator.

There is a 144-player limit.

WILDLIFE

The Hill Country Livestock Raisers Association and Texas Agri-Life Extension Service in Llano County will host a Wildlife Management Program on Oct. 16 at the American Legion Hall in Llano. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., and the program is from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Registration is $10 if reservations are made by Oct. 15. If registration is late, cost is $15 per person. A hamburger lunch will be provided to benefit Llano County 4-H Clubs.

Program speakers and topics include Dr. Jim Gallagher, Extension wildlife specialist, who will discuss quail management and predator control focusing on coyotes; Kerr Wildlife Management, with representatives talking about deer management, the effect grazing has on wildlife and controlled burning effects on wildlife; Bryan Davis, Natural Resource Extension agent from Bexar County, who will discuss water catchment with a quail guzzler; and Dale Schmidt, Texas Parks & Wildlife, who will present facts about local deer population and deer counts.

Three continuing education units will be offered.

RODEO

The Gustine Rodeo Club will host the first Ridin' for the Brand Ranch Rodeo on Oct. 17 in Gustine.

Events include sorting, mugging, doctoring and wild cow milking. Mike Wilfong is scheduled to be the stock contractor.

Ranch team entry deadline is Oct. 11 at 5 p.m. with a limit of 20 teams. Entry fee is $500 per team.

There will be a market place with various vendors beginning at 5 p.m. and the rodeo begins at 6 p.m. Vendors will be accepted until the day of the event.

After the rodeo, there will be a dance with Outlaw's Prayer performing.

Tickets for the rodeo or dance cost $5 at the gate or both can be purchased for $8. There is no charge for children under six.
