Badgers go 1-2 at Mansfield tournament
It took a little while to gel, but the Badgers eventually got on the same page and left the Mansfield basketball tournament winners.
Composed of a couple of current varsity players and handful of potential varisty and junior varsity players, Lampasas got off to a bumpy start last Saturday as it faced off against Aledo. Despite a well-rounded scoring effort, the Badgers lost 52-33.
Senior Eduardo Davila and Manny Lopez split the team-high scoring honors, posting six points apiece, while Ethan Byers, Carlos Cintron and Russell Myles chipped in four points apiece.
Unfortunately, Davila, one of two players on the team with varsity experience, suffered a minor leg injury and could not compete for the remainder of the tournament.
Without Davila, the team lost by 33 points, 63-30, to 5A Mansfield.
Cintron led the team in the loss, scoring a dozen points.
Then things clicked. Cintron, a member of the Badgers' JV team last year, posted 26 points and led Lampasas to a 56- 48 victory over 5A Weatherford. Byers and Dusty Carnes each added eight points.
"To beat a 5A school with the group we had out there says a lot about how they played," Lampasas head basketball coach Scott Harrelson said.
