Pierian members report on junior club activities
The GFWC/TFWC Pierian Club met recently at the home of Susan Browder, president, with co-hostesses Lucy Walker and Kim Garrett.
Ruth Martin, co-chair of the Juniorettes, noted that the girls and their mothers met Aug. 31 for an evening at My Girls. Emily Demmel is president of the Juniorettes.
Mrs. Martin announced that Meredith Lane was the winner of the 2008-09 Pierian Club scholarship. She is in her first semester at Texas Christian University.
Johnnie Ewing is serving as the GFWC Juniorette coordinator, and she reported on the status of the JPs.
Federation counselor Crystal Hammett reported on the Fall Board of Directors Meeting in Austin Sept. 10-12. The 75th anniversary of the headquarters building was celebrated on Sept. 11 with a high tea.
The Diamond Jubilee Celebration was hosted by the TFWC Historical Committee.
The Capital District Fall Board Meeting will be Oct. 13 in Killeen.
Mrs. Browder reported on the passing of Capital District President Ramona McPhail over the summer. The Pierian Club will make a donation to the TFWC Scholarship Fund in Mrs. McPhail's memory.
After a brief business meeting, the president gave a presentation on the GFWC and TFWC histories. She noted the milestones for the clubs that have been around for a long time.
Mrs. Martin discussed the yearbook and noted the programs planned for the upcoming year.
Bennie Bulloch and Nina Lee Rasmussen will co-host the October meeting at the home of Mrs. Ewing.
Retired minister J.W. Hutcherson, a community volunteer, will present a program on the Boys & Girls Club of Lampasas. A board member, he will speak on the growth of the club and the services it provides.
