Retired Sgt. 1st Class Derrel Fane (Tom) Thompson of Lampasas died Sept. 8, 2009, at Darnall Army Community Hospital in Killeen. He was 69.

Visitation is Sept. 11 from 6-8 p.m. at Sneed Funeral Chapel in Lampasas.

The body will be cremated following visitation.

Mr. Thompson was born May 5, 1940, in LaFlore, Okla., to Maxine Thompson.

He joined the Army and retired after duty in various stations including Vietnam and Germany.

Mr. Thompson was married to Melba Darlene Havins.

Survivors include his wife of Lampasas; sons, Derrel Thompson II of Virginia, Russell Thompson of Austin and Richard Hulme of Lampasas; daughters, Glenda Morris and Theresa Ingram of Austin, Brenda Old and Donna Doyle of Kempner, and Mary King of Killeen; one sister of Oklahoma; 11 grandchildren; and eight greatgrandchildren.
