Lampasas finishes in top eight at Waco

After playing three perfect matches to open the season, Lampasas went on a bit of a roller coaster ride as they saw their record go from 3-0 to 4-7.
In Waco, the Lady Badgers got their groove back, as the girls went 3-2 to finish in the top eight at the Waco Robinson volleyball tournament.
Lampasas opened Thursday's pool-play portion of the tournament with a heartbreaking loss to Crawford, falling in three sets, 25-23, 24-26, 23-25.
Junior middle blocker Madison Morris began her run toward an alltournament team selection with a 10-kill performance in the loss. She also recorded a pair of aces and had three digs.
Defensively, the Lady Badgers had 49 digs in the opening match, including 10 from Sarah Bishop and Hailey Morrison.
Despite the strong defense, the team could not win the tight contest and moved on to face Bosqueville.
Lampasas had few problems defeating the 1A Lady Bulldogs, as they earned a straight-set victory behind another impressive showing from Morris
Morris led the team with six kills, while teammate Jontell Ritz added five.
It was more of the same in the next match versus Teague.
Morris finished with five of the team's 11 kills and two of the squad's six aces, helping the Lady Badgers to a 25-18, 25-14 victory.
Lampasas dug up 20 balls in the match, with Bishop accounting for nine.
The performances advanced the Lady Badgers into the gold bracket Saturday, where they opened play against Milano.
Accurate serving from the entire squad helped the Lady Badgers wrap up a 22-25, 25-18, 28-26 win.
In all, Lampasas successfully placed 61 of its 68 serves. Ritz was 17 of 17 with four aces, and Morrison was 12 of 12 with a pair of aces.
Setters Mariah Jones (14 assists) and Jacqueline Hensley (11 assists) helped set up 36 kills in the match. Morris finished with 12, and Bishop recorded 11 kills.
Caldwell awaited the Lady Badgers in the next round and claimed a three-set victory after dropping the opening faceoff.
Lampasas (7-9 overall) drew first blood with a 25-22 win before Caldwell responded with 19-25 and 18-25 victories.
Bishop (10 digs) and Morrison (11 digs) totaled 21 of the Lady Badgers' 59 digs. Jones, Ritz and Hensley chipped in seven digs apiece.
Offensively, Bishop led the way for Lampasas with 11 kills, while Morris followed with 10.
The Lady Badgers play their first match of the year on their new home floor tonight when they welcome Rogers at 6 p.m.
