Flames drill teams finish camp, earn awards

The 2009-10 Flames varsity dance and junior varsity drill teams recently completed their summer camp at Bozarth-Fowler Gym with instruction conducted by Danceline Productions. Based in Fredericksburg, Danceline is an award-winning dance company founded by Anita Jefferson Conley, a former Dallas Cowboys cheerleader.

After the camp, awards were presented to Flames team members in several areas. Elite Dancer Awards went to Sarah Franklin, Marisa Garner, Caleigh Gibbons, Jessica Gibbons, Kabrina Honaker, Bailey Hyatt, Rae Jackson, Cheyenne Lathrop, Jamie Mize, Macie Moses, Lydia Olivarez, Andrea Salazar and Jessica Tucker.

Elite Dancers qualify to attend three Danceline Production special events, including a performing trip to New York City and Walt Disney World, and a special performance in San Antonio.

Individual awards were presented to Kabrina Honaker, Empowerment Award; Carissa Bywater and Jessica Jazdyk, Kick Award; Lydia Olivarez and Sharee Kuehl, Jazz Award; Sarah Franklin and Alex Ramirez, Pom Award; Jessica Tucker, Most Valuable Performer; Maci McGee and Bailey Hyatt, Best Attitude; Cheyenne Lathrop, Most Respectful; Gabbi Bennett, Best Smile; and Marisa Garner, Best Technique.

The LHS Flames this year are under the direction of Kelly Payne, who comes to Lampasas with more than 20 years of formal dance studio and drill team experience.

Formerly a member of the world-famous Kilgore Rangerettes, Mrs. Payne was assistant director of the Anderson High School Trojan Belle Drill Team that won the national championship during her tenure.

She also previously served as the Liberty Hill Middle School cheerleading coach and created the Spirit Squad Drill team there.
