John V. Rogers, 73, of Lampasas died Aug. 8, 2009, at Scott & White Memorial Hospital in Temple after a lengthy battle with cancer.

A memorial service will be held Aug. 22 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Pedro A. Castillo officiating.

Mr. Rogers was born Sept. 29, 1935, in Lampasas, the son of John N. and Regina M. Rogers.

He grew up in Lampasas, where he graduated from high school. He attended Lamar University at Beaumont.

Mr. Rogers was a plumber for Dewald Corp. for the majority of his career.

Survivors include his wife of almost 48 years, Carmen Rogers of Lampasas; children, Denise Cooper and husband, Greg, of Teague, Regina Love and husband, Monte, of Port Aransas, Johnnie Downing and husband, Chris, of Cheyenne Wyo., and John V. "Buck" Rogers and wife, Desta, of Midland; sisters, Janie Monroe of Modesto, Calif. and Mary Wilson of Cupertino, Calif.; a brother, Rudy Rogers of Jerome, Idaho; and four grandchildren, Seth Cooper of Waco, Zane Cooper of Teague, Ryan Love of Port Aransas and Piper K. Downing of Cheyenne, Wyo.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Joe David Rogers and Thomas R. Rogers.
