Former LISD educator dies

Glenda Summers Longtime Lampasas Independent School District educator and former principal Glenda Gay Summers died Aug. 6, 2009, at a private care facility in San Antonio. She was 79.

A memorial service was Aug. 8 at Sneed Funeral Chapel in Lampasas for the Lometa resident, who formerly lived in Lampasas.

Her body was cremated.

Mrs. Summers was born Dec. 6, 1929, in Lampasas, the daughter of Wade Hamilton and Beulah Cannon James.

She married Charles Foster Summers, and he preceded her in death in 1977.

Mrs. Summers was a professional educator, having taught school in Lampasas for many years. She then earned a master's degree in midmanagement and became a principal, serving in that role on different campuses locally until her retirement.

She was a member of First Baptist Church in Lometa.

Survivors include one daughter and her husband, Debbie and Darwin Odom of San Antonio; a son and his wife, James and Micki Summers of Lometa; a sister, Mona Guthrie of Plant City, Fla.; five grandchildren, Payton Charles Summers, Halle Brooke Summers, Hunter Nation Harris, Dusty Norwood and Stormy Odom; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Billie Kenan and James Kenan.

Memorials may be made to the Lampasas Elementary Benevolent Fund or Alzheimer's Association.
