Mr. Meredith
Graveside services were Aug. 5, 2009, at Smithwick Cemetery near Marble Falls for James Howard Meredith. He died Aug. 2 in Wichita Falls at the age of 91.
Dr. Jerry Christian of San Antonio officiated the services, under the direction of Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home.
Mr. Meredith was born July 28, 1918, in Marble Falls to James A. and Lucille Jackson Meredith.
He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II in Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, the Rhineland and Central Europe.
After earning the EACE Campaign Medal with five bronze stars, the Good Conduct Medal and the Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Clusters, Mr. Meredith then became a surgical tech for the Civil Service and retired in 1978.
On March 16, 1941, he married Manna Ruth Fry in Lampasas. She preceded him in death on April 17, 1986.
Mr. Meredith then married Florine Lacy Jackson on June 27, 1987, also in Lampasas. She passed away Feb. 27, 2006.
He also was preceded in death by a brother, Lofton Meredith, and his sister, Elsie Heffington.
Survivors include two sons, Howard R. Meredith, and Audie R. Meredith and wife Karen, all of Wichita Falls; stepdaughter Julie McConnell of Houston and her family; brother Gilbert Meredith of Stephenville; grandson Douglas Meredith and wife Kara of Keller; granddaughter Shelli Phillips and husband J.J. of Wichita Falls; and two great-grandchildren, Kenli Coughran and Ryan Meredith.
