A two-vehicle collision at East Fourth and Live Oak streets late Saturday morning sent a mother and her son to Rollins Brook Community Hospital. The accident occurred about 11:30 a.m.

A Pontiac, eastbound on Fourth Street, had come to a stop at the intersection so a pedestrian could cross the street in a crosswalk. The driver of the vehicle had her young son in a car seat in the left rear of the Pontiac.

A Ford F250, also driven by a woman, was eastbound on Fourth behind the Pontiac. The driver of the truck stated that she saw the vehicle in front of her but did not see brake or taillights, Lampasas police officer Carl Boatright said.

When the driver realized the Pontiac was stopped, she did not have time to brake to avoid a collision, Boatright reported.

The pedestrian, seeing that a collision was about to occur, did not cross the street, a family member said. The impact sent the Pontiac eastward past the intersection, beyond the point where the pedestrian would have been if she had crossed Fourth Street, the family member said.

The Pontiac's trunk was collapsed by the collision. The impact also broke out the back window of the Pontiac, Boatright said. While the front vehicle was totaled, the Ford sustained a cracked grill guard and a bent hood, the police officer said.

Capital Ambulance transported the woman and her son to Rollins Brook. The woman was complaining of neck pain but said her son seemed to be OK, Boatright said. The driver of the second vehicle was OK, he added.

Police officer Matthew Boswell assisted with traffic control, and Lampasas Fire Department members cleared the scene of debris.
