Richard Peter Bachstetter died at age 71 on July 27, 2009, in Hamilton Hospital after several years of serious illness.

Cremation was July 29, and his ashes were released into the Pacific Ocean on July 30.

Mr. Bachstetter was a sober member of Alcoholics Anonymous for 41 years. He and his wife ran a nonprofit outpatient clinic in Salt Lake City for treatment of alcohol and drug abuse for 15 years before Mr. Bachstetter's ill health prompted their retirement to a farm north of Adamsville in 2001.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Carol Stokes, and by two stepsons, Russ Tyler of San Clemente, Calif., and Jeff Tyler of Fort Worth.
