A Kempner teenager died Wednesday in the West Texas town of Sanderson as the result of a suspected accidental shooting.

Travis Scott Sittner, 14, an incoming eighth-grader at Lampasas Middle School, died of what investigators are considering an accidental "self-inflicted gunshot wound," Terrell County Sheriff Clint McDonald said in a telephone interview Friday.

McDonald said Sittner was at the residence of a family member at the time of the shooting, but the sheriff declined to comment further on the incident, citing an ongoing investigation.

A memorial service for Sittner was held Monday at Grace Fellowship in Lampasas.
