Cigarette blamed for motel room fire

A fire started Tuesday afternoon by an improperly discarded cigarette destroyed one room at Country Inn.
The Lampasas Fire Department received a 911 call via the Lampasas Police Department at 12:17 p.m. and responded with a ladder truck, LFD Training Officer Chris Ford said.
About 10 firefighters fought the blaze, which began in a room on the upper story of the motel, for about an hour. LPD assisted at the scene.
Ford described the room as a "total loss" and added that the two adjacent rooms received smoke damage. One upper-story room and one lowerlevel room were damaged by water, as well, Ford said.
Nobody was in any of the damaged rooms when the fire began, Ford added.
