|
The team did not disappoint. It finished with a 1-2-1 record in the five-team round-robin tournament that also included Goldthwaite, Brownwood, Early and Burnet.
In Friday's opening game, Lampasas took charge immediately, roaring out to a 5-0 lead before Goldthwaite answered with a 8-1 run to claim a two-run advantage.
The host club refused to fade away, however, and scored a pair of runs in the final at bat to tie the contest. With five innings in the books, the game was called as it reached the time limit.
Lampasas returned to the diamond Saturday morning where it played Early and lost by three runs, 8-5.
The squad kicked off a doubleheader Sunday afternoon against Burnet. Lampasas picked up a 5-2 victory behind winning pitcher Cutter Estep's performance.
Cullen Singleton came in to releive Estep late in the game and struck out three of the four batters he faced to pick up the save.
Later in the afternoon, Lampasas lost some of its steam in the sweltering summer conditions and fell to Brownwood by four runs, 7-3, in its final game of the tournament.
Offensively, Lampasas was led by Bryce Perkins, who reached base seven times during the threeday tournament. Perkins recorded four hits, three walks, five RBIs and scored five runs.
Mason Tabor, Dallas Brooks and Estep also had solid outings at the plate for Lampasas.
Tabor scored four runs off three hits and three walks. Brooks finished with a trio of hits and runs, while knocking in a pair of RBIs.
In addition to picking up a victory on the mound, Estep connected for three hits, scored a run and was responsible for three RBIs.
